🌳🌱 Celebrating Shrawan with a Successful Tree Plantation Program by Rotary Club of Patan! 🌱🌳
On Shrawan 12, 2081 (July 27, 2024), we didn't just celebrate the green month of Shrawan with green bangles, green tika, green clothes, and green nail polish. Instead, we honored it by planting trees on the bare hills of "Ga:cha Tol" in Bungamati!
How are you celebrating Shrawan?
Just like last year, this year too, we celebrated Shrawan by planting trees with the participation of 120 enthusiastic individuals. We planted:
- 274 saplings of various types including flowers, fruit trees, and ornamental trees
- 400 Napier grass and Amriso (broom grass) plants to hold the soil on steep slopes
This tree plantation was led by the Rotary Club of Patan in collaboration with Lalitpur Metropolitan City Ward No. 22 Office and Inner Wheel Club of Patan. The plantation took place on the eastern slope of the 'Disaster Safe Shelter Building' operated by the metropolitan city in Bungamati "Ga:cha Tol", Ward No. 22 of Lalitpur Metropolitan City.
We want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to President-Elect and Environment - Animal Welfare for Public Health Coordinator Rtn. Khadak S. Bisht for his exceptional leadership and dedication in organizing this event. His passion for environmental conservation has been truly inspiring.
A special mention goes to Director (Youth Service) Rtn. Maheshwari Bisht Rawal for her outstanding efforts in mobilizing youth participation. Her enthusiasm and hard work in engaging young volunteers have significantly contributed to the success of this program.
The tree plantation was jointly inaugurated by Mr. Sagar Tuladhar, Chairman of Ward No. 22, Ms. Preeti Khemka, President of Rotary Club of Patan, and Ms. Vijaya Shrestha, President of Inner Wheel Club of Patan.
Varieties of trees planted include:
Kalki, Tejpat, Jacaranda, Dhupi, Kapur, Avocado, Napier grass, Amriso, Bamboo, Mango, and Ipelektus.
This initiative was a collaborative effort with:
1. Rotaract Club of Patan
2. Jeevan Vigyan Yoga Sadhana Center, Bungamati
3. Women for Women Group, Bungkhokana/Chunikhel
4. Interact Club of St. Xavier's School, Godavari
We were honored to have special guests:
- Mr. Hem Thapa, DFO of Lalitpur Division Forest Office 🌲
- Ms. Durga Karki, Forest Officer of Lalitpur Metropolitan City 🌿
Let's start celebrating the green month of Shrawan by planting as many trees as we can to make our Earth greener. Let's save our habitat ourselves!
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could celebrate the month of Shrawan as a tree planting month, creating greenery around us?
Thank you to everyone who participated and supported us in making this event a grand success. Let's continue to plant trees and grow a healthier planet together! 🌍💚

Contributing to Healthcare in Far-Western Nepal 💐🏥
In a joint initiative by the Rotary Club of Patan and Nepal Heart Foundation, a week-long free heart screening and treatment camp was conducted in the far-western districts of Achham, Bajhang and Bajura. 👫👪During this camp, a 22-member team of health workers screened 13,172 individuals and provided treatment. 👩⚕️👨⚕️
In the camp, echocardiograms were performed on 1,052 individuals, and 121 children were diagnosed with heart diseases including rheumatic heart disease and congenital heart disease. 👶🏥 22 children were found to require immediate surgical intervention. We will be supporting these children by bringing them to Kathmandu for further treatment. 🚑
Along with screening and treatment, awareness programs on heart diseases were also conducted in various schools and locations. 🏫📚 The local community was educated about preventive measures for heart ailments. 🙅♂️🚭Such community health camps by Rotary Club of Patan have been making a significant contribution in providing healthcare access to people in remote areas. 🙏

Thought-provoking talk by Dr. Sanjib Shrestha 👨⚕️ at Rotary Club of Patan on the 'Moral Crisis for Medical Doctors in the USA' 🇺🇸💊
He highlighted how the corporatization of healthcare has alienated many doctors from their core purpose of caring for patients. 😰
With limited time for patient interaction, excessive data entry work, and pressure to meet commercial targets over focusing on patient care, many US doctors face a moral dilemma. Fighting with insurance companies and navigating a complex system add to the burnout. 😓
Dr. Shrestha, who worked in the US for over 25 years, shared his firsthand experience of this crisis. He advocates aligning doctor-patient interests so physicians can get back to their calling - caring for people's health. 💗
In countries like Nepal 🇳🇵, he finds the opportunity to serve more morally satisfying than the profit-driven US healthcare system. An eye-opening discussion on preserving the heart of the medical profession. 💖
Guest Speaker Dr. Sanjib Shrestha handed over a contribution cheque of NRs. 200,000 to the RCP's PEEF programme. 🤝 He has been a major donor who had earlier contributed NRs. 500,000 to this programme. 👏
