Adopted Schools & TEACH

Alongside PEEF scholarships for individual students, the Rotary Club of Patan has adopted four PEEF-supported public schools in Lalitpur. Adoption means support for the whole school community: teachers, students and school health. The work follows Rotary Nepal’s TEACH framework.

Scholarships and school adoption: the difference

  • PEEF scholarships support selected students from low-income families in 24 public schools, from grade 7 to grade 12. About PEEF →
  • School adoption supports four of those schools more widely: teacher training, digital learning, health and hygiene, and student activities.

The TEACH framework

TEACH is the Rotary Nepal Literacy Mission framework, now part of the District 3292 Basic Education and Literacy programme. It covers five areas:

  • Teacher Support
  • E-Learning
  • Adult Literacy
  • Child Development
  • Happy Schools

Menstrual Health and Dignity

Our menstrual health and hygiene work sits within TEACH. Explore the club’s school awareness activities, student research and development of teaching resources, with contributions from Rotarians and the Rotaract Club of Patan.

Cyber Safety and Digital Awareness

In Rotary Year 2025–26, the Rotary Club of Patan conducted pilot cyber-security awareness programmes in three of its four adopted community schools, with support from Nepal Police Headquarters’ Cyber Bureau. Rtn. Mahendra Rawal’s account in the club’s 2026–27 souvenir reports that participating students and teachers considered the programmes highly relevant and necessary.

What we did in Rotary Year 2025–26

Rotary Year 2025–26 ran from July 2025 to June 2026. The club’s PEEF Annual Report reports these activities in its adopted schools and, where stated, across all PEEF schools:

  • Teacher IT training: 12 teachers from the adopted schools, with Rotary District 3292 and the Rotary Club of Kathmandu.
  • Girls’ empowerment: menstrual-hygiene training.
  • Student Quality Circles: a training of trainers to build a quality-management network across the schools.
  • Eye, dental and hearing care: with the B.P. Eye Foundation, including eyeglasses for students who needed them.
  • Heart health and hygiene: heart health camps with the Nepal Heart Foundation; food- and menstrual-hygiene awareness with the NCD Alliance.
  • Cyber-security awareness: with Nepal Police.
  • Quiz contest for students.
  • Youth activities with the Rotaract Club of Patan: a futsal camp, a health awareness camp and environmental awareness.

The club’s Annual Report 2025–26 states that its wider education and TEACH activities, including adopted-school support, reached more than 1,500 students. That figure covers all of those activities together, not the adopted schools alone.
