Pediatric heart screening in Sindhupalchowk

Activity date: 16–20 November 2024 · reported programme period

The Rotary Club of Patan, Nepal Heart Foundation and Padmodaya Veteran Club 2031 conducted paediatric heart screening in Sindhupalchowk in November 2024. The GML activity report records the overall programme period as 16–20 November and describes three days of screening.

More than 8,500 children from 36 schools were screened. The report records 61 heart conditions: 41 congenital heart defects and 20 rheumatic heart disease cases. Eighteen children were identified as needing surgery.

The programme included free medication and referrals for advanced treatment. It focused on early detection of congenital and rheumatic heart conditions among schoolchildren, supported through club resources and partner organisations. Screening and referral are reported here; subsequent completion of surgery is a separate outcome.
