Health team and Rotary participants during the western Nepal school heart-screening mission

Heart screening and health camps in western Nepal

Activity date: 11–18 May 2025 · Jajarkot, Rukum and Salyan

From 11–18 May 2025, the Rotary Club of Patan and Nepal Heart Foundation conducted paediatric heart screening and general health camps in western Nepal, led by Dr. Prakash R. Regmi. The 18-person team included six cardiologists.

A total of 13,896 children were screened across 60 schools in Rukum West (Musikot), Rukum East (Rukumkot) and Salyan (Kapurkot). The activity report records 21 rheumatic heart disease cases and 51 congenital heart disease cases. Fifteen children were identified as needing surgery and referred to Kathmandu for free treatment.

A Jajarkot health camp examined 875 patients and distributed medicines valued at NPR 500,000. RCP contributed NPR 50,000 for the trip. The earlier Global Grant partnership had also provided a portable echocardiography device for continued outreach.

The mission supported early detection, awareness and access to further care in remote communities. Screening, referral and subsequent completion of treatment are separate outcomes.
